How to Choose a Red Light Therapy Bed

Every bed here delivers red and near-infrared light while you lie down, a different position than a standing booth or a single-sided panel. What actually separates one bed from another is enclosure design, LED output, and what it takes to install.

Enclosed Cabin vs. Open Clamshell

Most beds here use a fully enclosed tunnel or cabin, surrounding the body with light on all sides at once. A few models are also available in an open clamshell version instead, with upper and lower LED arrays but no surrounding tunnel. The open design gives a less enclosed session experience and tends to cost less, while the full-cabin version concentrates output more completely around the body.

LED Output and Irradiance

The beds here range from roughly 10,000 LEDs up to more than 56,000, with irradiance measured in mW/cm² climbing alongside that count. Higher output generally means shorter sessions can deliver a comparable dose, which matters most for a facility running many sessions back to back. A lower-output model still delivers full-body coverage, it simply takes a longer session to do it.

Compact Plug-In vs. High-Power Commercial Installation

Some beds are built to run on standard plug-in power, avoiding a hardwired high-voltage electrical installation, which matters for a home setup or a facility that doesn't want electrical work done. Higher-output beds draw considerably more power and are built for a dedicated commercial electrical setup. Confirm which category a bed falls into before assuming it will work with your existing power situation.

Smart Features and Mobility

Several beds add IoT-connected management, letting a facility monitor or control sessions remotely, along with integrated wheels for moving the unit between rooms. These aren't universal across the line, so if remote management or portability within a facility matters to you, confirm the specific model includes it rather than assuming every bed does.

Red Light Therapy Bed FAQs

The questions people usually have before choosing a red light therapy bed.

What's the difference between a bed, a booth, and a panel?

A bed is a lying-down format, either enclosed or open clamshell. A booth is a standing, fully enclosed chamber that surrounds the body from multiple sides at once without needing to lie down. A panel is a single flat surface you stand in front of, treating one side of the body at a time. Each is a genuinely different session experience, not just a different price point.

Should I get an enclosed cabin or an open clamshell bed?

An enclosed cabin surrounds the body more completely and tends to sit at a higher price. An open clamshell version costs less and still delivers upper and lower light exposure, just without the fully surrounding tunnel. Both are real, legitimate options depending on budget and how enclosed a session you want.

Do I need a hardwired electrical installation for one of these beds?

It depends on the model. Some are built to run on standard plug-in power specifically to avoid that requirement, while higher-output commercial beds typically need a dedicated electrical setup. Check the specific model's power requirements before purchasing if this is a concern for your space.
